What is “Sand Stepping”
It is a tour of the 88 sites in Shikoku, which has a history of more than 1200 years. However, in the past, transportation has not been developed as it is now, and people who can not fulfill it for various reasons while wishing for a pilgrimage trip. There were many. So, about 400 years ago, it was “sand-stepping”. It has been thought that you can receive the same merit as visiting around Shikoku by worshiping the Buddha’s copy of the Buddhist statues of each sacred place and worshiping while stepping on the sand of the eighty-eight place.“ Spirit Sacred Sites ”using this“ sand step ”are actively established throughout Japan, and welcome people who still cannot go on pilgrimage.
